Question 1. Cell Flashcards
What is cell?
Basic units of all living things
Function of Mitochondria
Generates energy
Function of Centriole
Forms spindle fibre during cell division in animal cells
Function of Golgi Apparatus
Processes, modifies, packs and transport chemicals such as protein, carbohydrate and glycoprotein
Function of Plasma Membrane
Controls movement of substances into and out of the cell
Function of Lysosome
*-Hydrolyses complex organic molecules
such as protein, nucleic acid and lipid
*-Breaks down bacteria and components
of damaged cell
Function of Nucleus/Nuclei
-Control all cell activities
-Has chromosomes that contain DNA
What is DNA
DNA determines the cell characteristic and metabolic function
Function of Ribosome
Site for protein synthesis
Function of Endoplasmic Reticulum
- Transport system within the cell
- Provide a wide surface for enzyme attachment and biochemical reaction
Function of Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Transport protein synthesised by ribosomes
Function of Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Synthesises and transports glycerol and lipids
Carries out detoxification of drugs and metabolic byproducts
What is Vacuole
A liquid-filled sac, which is the cell sap
What is vacuole surrounded by?
Tonoplast membrane
Size of vacuoles on young plant cells and matured plant cells?
Small for young,Large for matured
What does cell sap contains?
Water,organic acids,sugars,amino acids,enzymes,mineral salts,oxygen,carbon dioxide,metabolic by-products
What does cytoplasm consists of
jelly-like medium that contains the components of the suspended cells
What does cytoplasm contains?
Organic compounds e.g protein, lipid and carbohydrate and inorganic compound e.g potassium ions
Function of cell wall
Maintains the shape and provides mechanical supports to plant cell
Function of Chloroplast
Absorbs sunlight and convert it to chemical energy during photosynthesis
Similarities of plant cell and animal cells
Both cells are made of nucleus, cytoplasm, plasma membrane, Golgi apparatus, mitochondrion, endoplasmic reticulum and ribosomes
How does Amoeba sp. moves?
By extending its pseudopodium/pseudopodia
How does Paramecium sp. moves?
Using rhythmic cilia beats
How does Amoeba sp. gets food?
Amoeba sp. moves toward food by extends its pseudopodium to traps food particles by phagocytosis
