Rickets = what vitamin deficiency?

(not advisable to disturb these children as they can cry which will result in an obtunded airway.
also don’t investigate airways as can cause an obtunded airway)..
Life-threatening features of asthma
Peak exploratory flow rate is <33% predicted
Oxygen saturations <92%
Silent chest on auscultation
Weak or no respiratory effort
Hypotension
Exhaustion
Confusion/altered conscious level
Perianal/vulval itching + no abnormalities of investigation =
Threadworm
Difficult birth + delayed motor development =
Cerebral palsy
due to hypoxic-ischaemic brain injury and intraventricular haemorrhage
If pre-term delivery is expected, give the mother glucocorticoids. Why?
Prevent RDS.
(increases surfactant production in the neonate)
No menstruation, minimal breast development, widely-spaced nipples.

More severe cases = oxygen and nebulised budesonide if the child won’t tolerate PO steroid
Use nebulised adrenaline when concerned about airway
(also, crying can worsen their upper airway obstruction)
Child with symptoms more than 3 times a week or night-time waking.
What should be prescribed?
Inhaled corticosteroid
3-5 day fever followed by a maculopapular rash
