Initially refused William’s hand, was violently confronted by William, then agreed to marry him.
William was faithful to her.
Ruled Normandy as regent while Henry was conquering Europe. Participated in the Harrying of the North.
Used her power to take revenge on former flame that rejected her.

1st Wife of Henry I
Matilda of Flanders was her godmother.
Matilda was forbidden to take vows to be a nun by her father as she was a valuable asset on the marriage mart. Her father considered marrying her to William II but war broke out between Scotland and England and her father and mother died. Her brother took the throne and married her to Henry I to stop the conflict.
Gave generously to the poor and sick. Very popular with the people and traveled to broker peace.

2nd wife of Henry I
He married her after his male heir died after he was already widowed.
She was 18 when she married the 53 year Henry. She was forced to travel everywhere with Henry to increase the chances that she would get pregnant but she never did. Remarried after Henry’s death and had 7 children.
Matilda of Boulogne
Wife of Stephen
Supported Stephen’s claim to the throne. Called tropes from France and went to form a treaty with Scotland when Empress Matilda attacked. Was crowned as Queen when her husband was captured and held prisoner for 4 years. She was the first Queen Regnant
Geoffrey Plantagenet
Husband of Empress Matilda, Lady of the English
He was only 15 when he married 26 years old Matilda.
Supported her claim to the throne and helped her take Normandy. He stayed there to secure it while Matilda went to England.
