Quantum Flashcards
What is the photoelectric effect?
The photoelectric effect is emission of electrons from the surface of a metal when electromagnetic radiation above a certain frequency is incident on it.
What is the equation for energy of a photon?
E = hf = hc/λ h = planks constant f = Frequency c = Wave Speed λ = Wave Length
Define the threshold frequency of a metal.
The minimum frequency required of photons required for photoelectric emission of electrons from the metal.
What is the memetic energy of an emitted electron’s equation?
E kmax = hf - WorkFunction
What is the excitation of an electron?
When an electron moves up one or more energy levels in an atom.
When an electron moves down a shell, what does it emit?
Energy but in the form of a photon
What does each coloured line in an emission spectrum correspond with?
It corresponds with the wavelength and frequency of the light source.
Define the electron volt?
Energy gained by an electron accelerated through a potential difference of 1V.
1 eV = 1.6 x10 -19 J
What is the phenomena that can only be explained by the wave model of light?
Diffraction and I terference
What is the equation for the de Brogile wave length of a particle?
Lander = h/f = h /mc
