Quantitative analysis Flashcards
Concentration.
- As concentration increases the solute particles become more crowded.
- If a solution is three times diluted; it will take up three times more volume.
How to make a 1.0 mol/dm3 solution into 0.1dm3 solution.
To make 1.0 mol/dm3 solution into 0.1dm3 solution you need to take 100cm3 of the solution and add 900 cm3 of water.
How to convert cm3 to dm3.
÷1000

amount in moles with conc.
= concentration x volume
Concentration Eq.
= amount in moles/volume
Volume Eq.
= amount in moles/concentration
Food Labels
The government has introduced the colour coded ‘traffic light’ system for food labels showing the types of food such as sugar, salt, and fat and their quantities. The labels also give the percentage of the guideline daily amounts of these foods.
Sodium ions.
- Sodium ions are essential in our diets for water balance and nerve responses, but too much can cause high blood pressure and high blood disease.
- The main source of ions is salt
- Food labels need to be with care. Some list the amount of ‘sodium’, others the amount of ‘salt’.
- Prepared foods usually contain other sodium compounds in small quantities, so that sodium ions must be counted as well.
