Quantifying Enviromental Impacts Flashcards
What are the two types of data?
Quantitative and Qualitative
What are the two types of quantitative data?
Continuous and Discrete
What is continuous data?
Data which has an infinite number of possible values
What is discrete data?
Data which deals with distinct values
What are the two types of qualitative data?
Ordinal and nominal
What is ordinal qualitative data?
Data that is non-numerical but has relative numerical values
What is nominal qualitative data?
Data that is unordered, and distinct by name only
How do we find the median?
- Sorting the values in value order
2. Finding the middle number
What is the position of the sample median for an ordered set of n values?
n+1/2
What is the interquartile range?
75th percentile - 25th percentile
What is the 50th percentile?
The median, the point at which 50% of the data lies below
What data visualisation tool would you use to display continous data?
Histograms
Describe a histogram
Simple useful way to display continous data
Partition data into distinct bins
Mean is the balancing point of a histogram
Describe the relationship between the mean and the median if the data is right skewed
Mean > Median
Describe the relationship between the mean and the median if the data is left skewed
Mean < Median😆
