quant-chapter 3 Flashcards
central tendency
statistical measures for locating a single score that is most representative or descriptive of all scores in a distribution
mean
sum of a set of scores in a distribution, divided by the total number of scores summed, population/sample mean, interval and ratio
weighted mean
combined mean of two or more groups of scores, where the number of scores in each group is disproportionate or unequal,
median
middle value is a distribution of data listed in numeric order, graphed in cumulative percent distribution, ordinal
mode
value in a data set that occurs most often or most frequently, nominal
add a score above the mean makes
the mean increase
add a score below the mean makes
the mean decrease
delete a score below the mean makes
the mean increase
delete a score above the mean makes
the mean decrease
add/delete score equal to mean makes
the mean not change
replacing a score will
increase the mean with higher score, decrease the mean with lower score
normal distribution
half scores above the mean/median/mode, half below
skewed distribution
scores that includes outlier or scores that fall substantially above or below most other scores in a data set
positively skewed distribution
distribution where a few outliers are substantially larger than most, mean>mode
negatively skewed distribution
distribution of scores where a few outliers are substantially smaller than most, mode>mean
