Quality of Light Directed at subject Flashcards
What does the quality of light directed at a subject do?
Affects the shadows
Direct light
Flies from light source to subject
What effect does direct light have on subject?
Creates very dark shadows with hard edges
What are 2 examples of direct light?
Sunlight on a clear day
Light on camera from flash
Diffused light
light that passes through a semi-transparent material on the way from the light source to the subject
What effect does diffused light have on subject?
creates shadows that are lighter with softer edges
What effect does a large amount of diffusion have on subject?
the shadows could be so light that you can barely see them
What are 2 examples of diffused light material?
Clouds or sheer curtain
What does diffusion material do to light?
Causes light to bounce around and come at the subject from many different angles rather than directly.
Reflected light
light that bounces off an opaque surface and reflects onto subject
Examples of Reflected light surfaces
concrete wall, white wall, ceiling, clouds, vflat
What is the difference between diffused and reflected light?
diffused light has a material between it and the subject and reflected light hits a nearby surface and bounces onto a subject
