How does the WHO define QoL?
- the subjective evaluation of life as a whole
- patients appraisal of, and satisfaction, with their current level of functioning compared with what they perceive to be possible or ideal
- Physical, mental and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmary
What things are measured in QoL assessment?
- Physical functioning
- disease and treatment-related symptoms
- psychological functioning
- social functioning
- others such as spiritual concerns, cognitive function, sexual functioning and body care, satisfaction with health care
What patients are suitable for the ‘medical outcome study short form’ QoL?
generic - any patient with health problems, but not specifically cancer patients
