quality control and quality assurance Flashcards
why is quality important
- quality control - monitoring, checking and testing materials and components throughout the production process to ensure they conform to acceptable standards and tolerances specified within the quality assurance policies set out by the company
- QC inspection checks take place throughout the production process and are performed in conjunction with strict guidance documentation produced by the company and the client
inspection of raw materials should be checked for
- dimension
- defects
- warps
- damage from transport
quality control type of tests
- size for dimensional accuracy
- tests to check parts have been welded together properly
- visual inspection to check quality of finish
- test to check strength of parts
- test to check colour
- chemical analysis
how are dimensional checks made
- tools and equipment can be used to check that materials, parts, products are the correct size
dimension check equipment include
- Vernier callipers
- micrometre screw gauge
- co-ordinate measuring machines
- GONOGO guages
how do you ensure consistency?
- jigs
- jigs and fixtures are also helpful when welding / brazing
- formers are used to bend around so that a shape can be cut
- moulds are hollow shapes used for casting / moulding
planning - ccp and qc checks
-during manufacturing, key of the project will be identified at which qc checks are performed
- the manufacturer needs to decide where these ccp’s are and what checks are performed to ensure quality
quality assurance
- qa involves putting into place all actions which are required to ensure quality
- a series of planned actions and procedures are set up to check the product before, during and after manufacture
- qa is the responsibility of everyone and should be built into the process from day one
what is total quality management
- tqm is a philosophy designed to ensure the products being manufactures are all consistent and of good quality
what are the total quality management principles
‘continuous improvement’ in every part of manufacturing process - including all parts of the company
what does total quality management rely upon
every employee to be responsible for their quality standards
