Quality Assurance Flashcards
QA
Arrangements to ensure quality control measures are effective and can lead to relevant change.
QC
Specific measure for ensuring and verifying quality of radiographs produced.
QAudit
External reassurance that QA and QC are satisfactory and work effectively.
IRMER 2000
Chapter 5
Practictioners/operators expected to know principles of QA/C with equipment techniques.
Implementation responsibility of named person.
Frequency of operations/ supporting content defined.
Frequency of formal checking of records.
IPEM 91
Chaper 9 - Dental imaging
Level A: Can be performed by dental staff
Level B: Complex, usually physicist
Subjective quality rating
Excellent - no errors of exposure, positioning or processing. 70%
Diagnostically acceptable - some errors tat don’t detract from diagnosis. 20%
Unnaceptable. 10%
Image quality
Analyse every 6 months.
Retrospectively or prospectively.
Corrective action if targets not reached.
Film reject log
Record;
Date, fault, cause and corrective action, repeats and total in time period.
Calculate grade 3 film.
Patient dose and equipment
1: Critical examination by installer
2: Acceptance test - before equipment used clinically to determine baseline performance and assess representative patient dose.
Routine tests
Done by physicist. Include diagnostic reference levels. Complement regualr maintnance checks - annually if problems. Repeated if equipment... Relocated, modified, repaired.
Darkroom/ daylight hood
Daily - surface cleanliness
6-12m - Light tightness, check safelights, filter and distance from work surface.
Coin test - need at least 1min before film fogs.
Xray film storage
Cool dry place
Away from sunlight
Store on side
Rotate stock - old film will fog
Cassettes
Put in bright light and expose
If dark around edges cassettes getting old and need replacing
Digital image receptors
Check image uniformity every 3 months with low exposure.
Every months check plates, cables and sensors and clean if needed.
Chemical processing
Fill fixer tank first
use correct temp
Change every 2 weeks and keep records
