Two reasons why unstructured interviews might lack reliability?
Every interview is unique- impossible to compare data with no uniformity of questioning
Interviewers might be different in the way they conduct their interviews
What is rapport and why important?
A close relationship with trust and understanding. Interviewee might feel more candid with the interviewer if they can trust them
Advantages of group interviews?
Representativeness- higher than using any other interview, less disruptive, schools are more lenient with them to take place
Validity- may be increased, students may feel more comfortable when around friends
Why unstructured interviews are valid
Give interviewee freedom to respond as they wish
Why are questionnaires very practical?
Cheap to produce, easy way to collect large amounts of data
Disadvantages of group interviews
Some individuals might dominate more than others and say little or nothing
Participants might feel reluctant to give honest answers due to peer pressure
Ethical issues with Questionnaires
Researchers might not be considerate and not give informed consent
Important for participants to be aware if research they are involved in contains any illegal activities
