Qualitative analysis Flashcards
How do you test for anions in carbonate
Add dilute acid. Effervescence, carbon dioxide produced
Test for anion in chloride (in solution]
Acidify with dilute nitric acid, then add aqueous silver nitrate. White ppt formed.
Test for anion in bromide [in solution]
Acidify with dilute nitric acid, then add aqueous silver nitrate. Cream ppt formed
Test for anion in nitrate
Add aqueous sodium hydroxide then aluminum foil; warm carefully. Ammonia produced.
Test for anion in sulfate
Acidify, then add aqueous barium nitrate. White ppt formed.
Test for aqueous cations in ammonium.
1. Effect of aqueous sodium hydroxide.
2. Effect of aqueous ammonia
- Ammonia produced on warming
- -
Test for aqueous cations in calcium.
1. Effect of aqueous sodium hydroxide.
2. Effect of aqueous ammonia
- White ppt, insoluble in excess
- No ppt. or very slight white ppt.
Test for aqueous cations in copper (II).
1. Effect of aqueous sodium hydroxide.
2. Effect of aqueous ammonia
- Light blue ppt, insoluble in excess
- Light blue ppt, soluble in excess, giving a dark blue solution
Test for aqueous cations in iron (II).
1. Effect of aqueous sodium hydroxide.
2. Effect of aqueous ammonia
- Green ppt, insoluble in excess
- Green ppt, insoluble in excess
Test for aqueous cations in iron (III).
1. Effect of aqueous sodium hydroxide.
2. Effect of aqueous ammonia
1.red-brown ppt, insoluble in excess
2.red-brown ppt, insoluble in excess
Test for aqueous cations in zinc.
1. Effect of aqueous sodium hydroxide.
2. Effect of aqueous ammonia
1.White ppt, soluble in excess, giving a colorless solution.
2. White ppt, soluble in excess, giving a colorless solution.
