Qualitative Flashcards
Phenomenology
This method focuses on understanding how people experience things in their lives. Researchers talk to individuals to learn about their personal stories and feelings, aiming to capture the essence of their experiences.
Ethnographic Research
researchers spend time with a group of people (like a community or culture) to observe their daily lives. They might even join in activities to better understand people’s behaviors, rituals, and social interactions.
Grounded Theory
creating theories based on data collected from real-life situations. Researchers gather information through interviews or observations and then analyze it to discover patterns and build a new theory.
Case Studies
Case studies involve a detailed investigation of a specific case, such as an individual, event, or organization. Researchers use multiple sources of information (like interviews, documents, or observations) to get a deep understanding of that case.
Community-Based Participatory Research
Researchers work closely with community members. Together, they identify problems and solutions, ensuring that the community has a say in the research process and benefits from the findings.
Thematic Analysis
common themes or patterns in qualitative data, such as interviews or open-ended survey responses. Researchers identify and categorize these themes to understand what people are saying.
Content Analysis
counting and analyzing specific words, phrases, or topics in various forms of media (like texts, videos, or images). It helps researchers understand what is being communicated and its significance.
Saturation
Information is consistent from the research, and no new ideas from the data
Reliability
researcher’s approach was consistent with standard procedures used by another researcher (citing another researcher)
Validity
involves accuracy utilizing analysis procedures that maximize the accuracy of interpretation
Member Checking
come up with results and check what was understood by the participants, it will be found in the methods section
Multiple Rater
Multiple people looking over the data
Triangulation
confirmation of findings from multiple sources (data or participants) for current research
peer review vs member checking
peer review is to deal with researcher and member checking is to deal with participants
Internal validity
research methods, procedures, analytical techniques will provide and support the research and population
