Quadriceps Femoris Group Flashcards
Name the four muscles of the Quadriceps femoris group
Rectus Femoris Vastus Lateralis Vastus Medialis Vastus Intermedius (Articularis Genu)
Give the proximal attachment of the rectus femoris
Straight head - AIIS
Reflected head - rough area of the ilium, superior to the acetabulum
Give the distal attachment of the rectus femoris
The upper border of the patella via the Quadriceps tendon with some anterior fibres crossing the patella to form the patella tendon which inserts into the tibial tuberosity
Give the action of the Rectus Femoris muscle
Extends the knee
Flexes the hip
Give one functional activity in which the quadriceps femoris participates
The knee extension phase of running/ walking/sit to stand/climbing stairs
Give attachments of vastus intermedius
Origin: Upper 2/3 anterior and lateral surfaces of femur
Insertion: Quadriceps tendon (deep to rectus femoris) to lateral border of patella
Give actions of vastus intermedius
Knee extension
Give attachments of vastus lateralis
Origin: intertrochanteric line, greater trochanter, gluteal tuberosity, lateral lip linea aspera
Insertion: Quadriceps tendon to lateral border of patella
Give actions of vastus lateralis
Knee extension
Give attachments of vastus medalis
Origin: Medial part of inter-trochanteric line, pectineal line, medial lip of linea aspera, medial supracondylar line
Insertion: Quadriceps tendon to medial border of patella
Give actions of vastus medialis
Knee extension
Give innervation of quadriceps femoris
Femoral nerve: L2-4
