Q

Tell me where you’d find the information for the recommended tyre pressures for this car and how tyre pressures should be checked.

A

Found in manufacturer’s manual. Check the tyre pressures by using a reliable pressure gauge (air pump) when the tyres are cold. Don’t forget to check the spare tyre. And remember to refit the valve caps.

A

The head restraint should be adjusted so the middle part (rigid part) should be lined with the tops of your ears. It should also be as close to the back of the head as comfortable.

Q

Tell me how you’d check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.

A

A safe tyre will have no cuts or bulges. Would check each tyre. The tread depth should be atleast 1.6mm across the central 3/4s of the breadth of the tyre and around the entire outer circumference.

Q

Tell me how you’d check the brake lights are working on this car.

A

If someone is in the car with me, I would push the brakes then get them to go to the back of the car and check if its working. If I am alone, I would reverse the car before a reflective surface like another car (windows, doors etc) and check my rear view mirror

Q

Tell me how you’d check the power assisted steering is working before starting a journey.

A

When the engine is off, the steering wheel is stiff, when you turn the engine on, it should become a lot lighter, if it does not, there is a problem. If the steering is heavy.

Can also turn the steering wheel just after moving off, this will immediately tell you if its working.

17
Q

Tell me how you’d switch on the rear fog light(s) and explain when you’d use it/them. You don’t need to exit the vehicle.

A

Use rear fog lights when visibility is reduced to 100 metres or less. On the left stick. Turn on your headlights by moving the tip of the stick to the headlight sign. Then twist the middle to the first headlight. Will know its on because a light comes up on the dashboard. Turn it back (middle, just before the headlight sign and top, twist till the sun thing is near the headlight sign).

18
Q

Tell me how you switch your headlights from dipped to main beam and explain how you’d know the main beam is on whilst inside the car.

A

Headlights are located on the left stick. Twist the top to the headlight sign (at the end). To turn the main beam on, push the stick away from you. Will know its on because you can see the blue light on your dashboard.

19
Q

Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check that the engine has enough.

Where do you refill the oil?

A

On top of accelerator is the bonnet catch (pull it forward), go to the front of the car (put your hand above the Toyota sign) push the catch and open the car lid. Then get the stick out, put it into the hole to hold the bonnet up. Go to the dipstick (yellow circle) and wipe it clean, then dip it back and see the oil is between the minimum and maximum level (max is at the top).

If you want to refill the oil, do that next to it in the thing that looks like a lid.

20
Q

Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine coolant level and tell me how you would check the engine has the correct level.

A

Engine coolant is a white bottle (with pink liquid), where the liquid is, is the level. There is high and low markers. You can refill it (just under the maximum).

21
Q

Open the bonnet, identify where the brake fluid reservoir is and tell me how you would check that you have a safe level of hydraulic brake fluid.

A

Brake fluid is in another white bottle. There is a minimum and maximum marker. As long as its between the max and the minimum, you are fine.

22
Q

When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you wash and clean the rear windscreen?

A

Move the top of the right indicator (little sign) to the dotted line. Keep control of the vehicle.

23
Q

When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you wash and clean the front windscreen?

A

Pull the indicator towards you. Keep control of the vehicle.

24
Q

When it is safe to do so, can you show me how you’d switch on your dipped headlights?

A

Left stick, move it forward twice (two clicks), then back. Lights will come on, on the dashboard. Keep control of the vehicle.

25
Q

When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you’d set the rear demister?

A

On dashboard, two cirlces, the one closes to me, click the bottom, then after a while click it off. Keep control of the vehicle.

26
Q

When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you’d operate the horn?

A

Put your hand flat over the Toyota sign and push just a little. Keep control of the vehicle.

27
Q

When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you’d demist the front windscreen?

A

On dashboard, two cirlces, the one closes to me, click the top, then after a while click it off. Keep control of the vehicle.

28
Q

When it’s safe to do so, can you show me how you’d open and close the side windows?

A

Push down the button which is closer to the window to open. To close it, pull that up.

29
Q

How do you check if you have sufficient windscreen washer fluid?

A

Has a yellow lid (near dipstick), open the cap to check how much is in there.
