Qs Flashcards
How many questions will the examiner ask?
Two questions- one tell me question and one show me question.
What is a tell me question?
Where you explain how you’d carry out a safety task.
When do they ask a tell me question?
Start of test, before you start driving.
What is a show me question?
Where you show how you’d carry out a safety task.
When is a show me question asked?
Whilst you are driving.
What happens if you get one or both the questions wrong?
You will get a minor.
When can you fail your driving test?
If you drive dangerously or potentially dangerously whilst answering the show me question.
Tell me how you would check that the brakes are working before starting a journey.
Brakes should not feel spongy or slack. The brakes should be tested as you set off. Vehicle should not pull to one side.
Tell me where you’d find the information for the recommended tyre pressures for this car and how tyre pressures should be checked.
Found in manufacturer’s manual. Check the tyre pressures by using a reliable pressure gauge (air pump) when the tyres are cold. Don’t forget to check the spare tyre. And remember to refit the valve caps.
Tell me how you make sure your head restraint is correctly adjusted so it provides the best protection in the event of a crash.
The head restraint should be adjusted so the middle part (rigid part) should be lined with the tops of your ears. It should also be as close to the back of the head as comfortable.
Tell me how you’d check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that their general condition is safe to use on the road.
A safe tyre will have no cuts or bulges. Would check each tyre. The tread depth should be atleast 1.6mm across the central 3/4s of the breadth of the tyre and around the entire outer circumference.
Tell me how you’d check that the headlights and tail lights are working. You don’t need to exit the vehicle.
Turn on the headlights, get out, check the front and the back.
Tell me how you’d know if there was a problem with your anti-lock braking system.
Warning lights would come up on your dashboard when you are driving.
Tell me how you’d check the direction indicators are working. You don’t need to exit the vehicle.
Turn on the hazard warning lights (on dashboard, its a button that has a triangle on it), all the indicators will turn on, then walk all around the car to check they are ok.
Tell me how you’d check the brake lights are working on this car.
If someone is in the car with me, I would push the brakes then get them to go to the back of the car and check if its working. If I am alone, I would reverse the car before a reflective surface like another car (windows, doors etc) and check my rear view mirror
