What is QARTS

A
  • oversees 4 ANZCA accredited rotations in queensland in accordance with ANZCA’s regulation 37 and handbook for training and accreditation
  • Sponsored body providing advice to employing organisations and administers selection and placement of registrars in anaesthesia throughout queensland. Supported by QLD health.
  • Only deals with training positions during introductory, basic and advanced training. NOT FELLOWSHIP POSITIONS.

What happens if you decline a training position

A

Will not be offered another position for that HEY. Dont need to preference all rotations. Regional placement is expected and compulsory.
In exceptional circumstances can submit requests to rotational supervisor.

Continuing traininee RMO campaign process

A
  • Must apply for QARTS, not automatic continuation. Must demonstrate satisfactory performance (courses, exams, training assessments, progression through training)
  • Submit a copy of trainee summary report (From TPS)
  • One referee report
  • Usually stay in same rotation, in exceptional circumstances could apply to transition to rotational supervisors and QARTS rotational coordinator

Failing primary or secondary

A

Can have 1 year BTE and one year ATE if not passed.
Once passed can re-apply and be put on the waitlist for their former rotation
If on extended training and nor completed core unit review, will not be offered a QARTS position the next year, may apply for waitlist once completed

Leave

A

Can apply for leave for 6-12 months at a time. Prospective to your rotational supervisor before selection committee meeting in August.
Will need to undergo re-introduction to training requirements based on leave durations from BT and AT (I think 13 weeks and 26 weeks away respectively)

Levels of supervision

A

1 - 1:1 able to immediately intervene. ITs pre IAAC and anyone in an unfamiliar environment must have level 1
2 - 1:2 able to intervene quickly, good knowledge of cases
3 - On site and available, may not have knowledge of case/procedure
4 - off site but exclusively rostered for and available for consultation
