QA Analysis Flashcards
What salts are white?
Salts containing Na, K, Ca, Mg, Al, Zn, NH4. They dissolve to form a colourless solution
What are the colours of CuSO4 and Cu(NO3)2?
Blue when hydrated and solution is blue
What are the colours of CuCl2 and CuCO3?
Green and forms blue solution for the chloride (carbonate is insoluble)
What are the colours for Fe (II) salts?
Green, dissolves to form green solution
What are the colours for Fe (III) salts?
Brown, dissolves to form yellow solution
What are the colours for PbO?
Brown when hot and yellow when cold
What are the colours for CuO?
Black when solid (insoluble)
What are the colours for ZnO?
Yellow when hot and white when cold
What are the colours for PbCl2 and PbI2 respectively?
White for the chloride and yellow for the iodide
Why is Zinc (II) Hydroxide and Copper (II) Hydroxide soluble in excess ammonia?
They form complex ions
What colour is gaseous Francium?
Pale yellow
What colour is Chloride?
Yellow-green when gaseous, Pale yellow in concentrated aqueous solution
What colour is Bromide?
Reddish brown when in the gaseous and liquid state, and Orange in concentrated aqueous solution (yellow when dilute)
What colour is Iodide?
Dark purple in gaseous state, Shiny black in solid state and pale yellow in water (brown when concentrated, turns blue-black due to triiodide ion)
