Q3 - Lateral Pressure And Retaining Walls Flashcards

1
Q

How to calculate the resultant force or lateral pressure distribution with two layers?

A

First find Ka1 and Ka2
Now find SIGMA.x = Ka * Gamma * H (remember second layer gags - another card)
Pressure1,2,3 = area * SIGMA.x
Position x = (Total: (P * height of centroid for each one))/Ptotal

Q

How to calculate the water SIGMA.x and pressure?

A

SIGMA.x = H* GAMMA.w
P = Area * SIGMA.x

Q

What to remember when calculating SIGMA.x for multilayer remaining wall?

A

H1 * GAMMA.1 * k1, then:
H1 * GAMMA.1 * k2!!
H2 * GAMMA.2 * k2 + last one
