Q3. Flashcards
How does climate change affect us?
Climate change presents physical risks which include economic costs and financial losses.
$800 billion works of assets are at risk
Why does climate change pose a risk?
Emission and build up of carbon increase the earth’s temperature. This leads to polar caps melting and sea level rising. This means that some areas may suffer from drought or flooding thus not be able to produce the food they need.
Examples of physical damage:
- Heat waves
- Landslides
- Floods
- Wildfires
- Rising sea levels
How does climate change affect investment in some property markets?
Due to rising floods & landslides, property can be damaged meaning investing in some areas is no longer attractive.
How do we need to manage the risks from climate change?
They are irreversible, if we don’t take action then consequences will be noticeable forever.
We don’t know the time frame nor the degree of severity of impact so we need to implement long term plans to tackle these issues.
