Q2 lesson 1 Flashcards
What are hand tools?
Hand tools are manipulated by hands without the use of electrical energy, such as screwdrivers, hammers, pliers, and wire strippers.
(e.g., Screwdrivers, Hammers, Pliers)
What is the function of a screwdriver?
Screwdrivers are used to loosen or tighten screws.
Used for screws with a single slot head.
Standard/Flat Screwdriver
Used for screws with a cross slot head.
Philips Screwdriver
Used to drive screws with hexagonal slot heads.
Wrench
What are the different types of hammers?
- Claw Hammer: Used for driving nails and pulling them out.
- Mallet: Made of wood or rubber, used to avoid damaging surfaces.
- Ball Peen Hammer: Used for shaping metal and driving pins.
(e.g., Claw, Mallet, Ball Peen)
What are the types of pliers and their uses?
Pliers are used for cutting, twisting, bending, holding, and gripping wires.
also called (Lineman’s Pliers): Used for gripping, holding, and cutting electrical wires.
Combination Pliers
Used for cutting wires and cables.
Side Cutting Pliers
Used for reaching tight spaces and making terminal loops in wires.
Long Nose Pliers
used to remove insulation from medium-sized wires, ranging from gauge #10 to #16.
(e.g., for wire insulation removal)
wire stripper
tools are manipulated by hands with the use of electrical energy.
(e.g., Portable Electric Drill, Grinding Wheel)
machine/power tools?
A small drilling machine used to make holes in metal sheets and concrete walls, with a chuck capacity of ¼” to 3/8”.
(e.g., for drilling holes)
portable electric drill
is used for grinding and sharpening tools. It may have one or two grinding surfaces for various tasks.
(e.g., Grinding and sharpening)
grinding wheel
are activated by air pressure, such as the torque wrench and air drill.
(e.g., Torque Wrench, Air Drill)
pneumatic tools
uses compressed air to turn nuts, bolts, and other objects quickly and powerfully.
(e.g., for turning bolts)
torque wrench
is lighter than an electric drill and doesn’t overheat or damage from repeated stalling or overloading.
(e.g., for drilling without overheating)
an air drill
used to find the measurements of objects, such as rulers, volt-ohmmeters, and wire gauges.
(e.g., Test Light, Wire Gauge, Ruler, Volt-Ohmmeter)
measuring tools
small tool used to test if there is current in a wire or circuit.
(e.g., for testing electrical circuits)
test light
used to determine the size of wires or conductors, ranging from 0 to 60 AWG (American Wire Gauge). The higher the number, the smaller the wire diameter.
wire gauge
used to measure the length, width, and thickness of short flat objects and to sketch straight lines.
(e.g., for measuring flat objects)
ruler/foot rule
also called a multi-tester, is used to measure the voltage, resistance, and current of a circuit.
(e.g., for testing circuits)
volt-ohmmeter (VOM)
