Q & A to know - But cannot say outside of work Flashcards

1
Q

How does the device work to prevent cancer cells from replicating?

Q

Why is it important to maintain as much treatment time as possible?

A

Only a certain fraction of the cells in the tumor are undergoing mitosis at any one time. Only cells undergoing mitosis will be affected by the electric field.

Q

Can patients use DC to AC inverters while in their car to power the system?

A

Since we cannot prevent patients from this practice, the best thing to do is to give them guidelines around what to use in order to prevent equipment damage.
DO NOT recommend a particular inverter.
DO mention that whatever they buy should be capable of 300W continuous power (NOT PEAK!)

Q

Do I need to remove NovoTTF™-100A while having x rays, CT scans and MRIs?

A

Yes. The NovoTTF-100A device and Treatment Kit parts should be kept away from extreme sources of radiation. Patients should turn the system off and remove the arrays while having radiological procedures (x-rays, CT scans and MRIs). Leaving the arrays on your head during the procedure can result in injury and may produce artifacts on the image affecting the scan results. After the procedure is completed, apply new transducer arrays and connect the NovoTTF-100A system.

Q

My head feels warm, while the device is on. Is this expected?

A

Some warming sensation is expected. Most patients get used to this quickly. If you are unsure, or experience a red rash, small sores or blisters on your scalp under the transducer arrays, contact your healthcare provider. If you experience a change in health, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
