Q 1-10 Flashcards
ATROPINE POISONING
Pharmacological actions of atropine :
1. cvs - TACHYCARDIA due to blockage of m2 receptors on sa node
2. bp- no direct effect on bp
3. relaxes all visceral smooth nerves that recieve para sympathetic motor innervation
- may lead to constipation due to slowed passage of chyme
*causes bronchodialation , espesially in COPD and Asthma
*rise in body temp
epinephrine is not prescribed when ?
when the patient is taking
*tricyclic antidepressants
*monoamine oxidase inhibitors
metronidazole
it is an antibiotic given mainly against anaerobic bacteria and does not affect aroebic bacteria
<clostridium perfranins , helico bacter pylori , peptoocci , spirochetes >
teratogenicity
capacity of drug to cause fetal malformation / abnormalities when administered to a pregnant woman
classifiation of nsaids
- NON SELECTIVE:
a) Salicylates (aprin)
b) pyrazolone derivatives (phenylbutazone)
c) indole derivatives (indomethacin)
d) propionic acid derivatives (ibuprofen)
e) anthranilic acid derivatives (mephenamic acid)
f) aryl-acetic acid derivative ( diclofenac)
g) oxicam derivatives (piroxicam)
h) pyrrolo pyrrole derivative (ketorolac) - PREFERENTIAL COX-2 INHIBITORS :
*nimesulide - SELECTIVE COX-2 INHIBITORS:
*celecoxib
*rofe coxib
*valde coxib - ANALGESIC : antipyretics with poor anti inflammatory action
*PCM <paracetamol> (acetaminophen)</paracetamol>
DIGOXIN
Patient should avoid food products that cause drug food interactions such as :
*chocolate
*spinach
*cereal greains
*nuts
MYOCRDIAL INFARCTION
in a patient with suspected MI 2 drug given are :
*asprin
*clopidogrel
NSAID block ?
endogenous prostaglandin synthesis through inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzymatic activity
penicillin v has what better therapeautic effect over penicillin g
acid resistance and better oral absorption
nifedipine causes ?
hyperplastic gingiva
