Pyschology U3 Mod 10 (16) Flashcards
The body’s communication network
Nervous System
bundled axons that form neural cables
Nerves
Brain and Spinal cord
Central Nervous System (CNS)
neurons that carry info to the body muscles and glands
Motor Neurons (efferent)
division of the peripheral nervous system
Somatic Nervous System
the sensory and motor neurons that connect to the CNS
Peripheral Nervous System
neurons that carry messages to the bran and spinal cord
Sensory Neurons (afferent)
neurons within the brain & spinal cord that communicate internally
Interneurons
controls the glands and muscles of internal organs
Autonomic Nervous System (ANS)
arouses and expands energy
Sympathetic Nervous System
an automatic response to stimuli
Reflex
chemical messengers that travel through the blood stream
Hormones
regulates growth and controls other endocrine glads
Pituitary Glands
Conserves energy and calms the body
Parasympathetic Nervous System
The body’s “slow’ chemical communication system
Endocrine System
