What is the CPU?
The Central Processing Unit
What are the two main functions of the CPU?
1 - To process data and instructions
2- To control the rest of the computer system
How does the CPU receive instructions and data
Either from an input or memory
Where is data stored while it is being processed
Primary Storage
What are input devices?
Keyboards, Mouse, Camera or Scanner
What are output devices?
Monitor, Speaker or Printer
What is Primary Storage?
Temporarily holds data of aplications currently in use, is either RAM or ROM
What is RAM?
Random Access Memory
What does RAM do
Short term memory, data currently in use, is volatile (deletes when device is turned off)
What is ROM?
Read Only Memory
What does ROM do?
We can not write anything into ROM, it is all already written. Is Non-Volatile
What is Secondary Storage?
Where data is stored that is not used frequently, which would be stored in the primary storage
