- they don’t think it is allowed as god has predetermined two people to marry and that divorce goes against god

what is the liberal Christian view on divorce
- frowned upon and seen as a last resort
- cheating allows divorce
- “love your neighbour” Matthew 22:39 love should be the first action in the situation rather than separation
- “do not judge or you too will be judged” Matthew 7:1 humans should not judge as this is the role of god and so in some cases divorce may be permitted
“you are a compassionate and gracious god” Psalm 86:15 god will understand circumstances and not punish those who make the best decisions for themselves
what is the conservative view on cohabitation
- sex before marriage devalues the sacred nature of sex and should only be done in the marriage
- some churches may refuse to marry those who have cohabited before marriage

- increase in acceptance
- marriage is ideal but it is ok when there is a serious level of commitment

- marriage is sextually exclusive and should not be shared with anyone else

- not permitted as it goes against the teachings of the church

- the second wedding will be a civil ceremony or in a different church
- the bride cannot wear white as she is no longer pure

may use their own personal judgement and have a choice whether to remarry or not
in some cases they will do a prayer after the civil ceremony

- natural law as guidance rather than absolute
- god gave intelligence so that humans could make decisions for themselves
