Q

What can melting or boiling points tell us how pure a substance is?

A

A chemically pure substance will melt or boil at a specific temperature
Test for purity would be to measure its boiling/melting point and then compare it with the melting/point of the pure substance (found in a data book). The purer the sample is the closer it is to the actual points
Impurities in your sample will lower the melting point and increase the melting range, also increase the boiling point and boiling at a range of temperatures
