Baker v Bolton (1808)
A
Plaintiff and wife in carriage drawn negligently and overturned.
Wife was injured and subsequently died.
She was a useful economic commodity to her husband (he would have to pay someone to perform her duties)
Can he recover on the basis of pure economic loss?
No; you can only recover if they are injured.
Led to the creation of the Compensation to Relatives Act 1887 (NSW) where realities can recover (not employers)
