A

provides valuable information about the integrity and function of the iris, posterior visual pathway , optic nerve , 3rd and sympathetic nerves of the eye

indication of the pupillary assessment

A
  • preliminary test !

- as some abnormal pupillary reflex abnormalities may be life threatening

Anisocoria

A

abnormal pupil size .

physiology:
diff in pupil size is same in both bright and dim illumination

pathology:
pupil size diff is diff in bright and dim illumination

Relative afferent pupillary reflect

A

eye with RAPD will react slower / no reaction to light. this is an afferent deferent this means that RAPD is caused by optic nerve lesion / large retina lesion.

RAPD is asymmetric if not we will count it as RAPD is absence

to look at where the light is shining
