Class 3 Felonies
Crimes such as burglary or certain drug distribution offenses punishable by a potential sentence of 4 to 12 years in prison and a fine ranging from $3,000 to $750,000.
Class 4 Felonies
Offenses like identity theft or certain theft crimes potential sentence of 2 to 6 years in prison and a fine ranging from $2,000 to $500,000.
Class 5 Felonies
Crimes such as forgery or certain types of assault. The penalty for a Class 5 felony is a prison sentence of 1 to 3 years.
Class 2 Felonies
Serious offenses such as kidnapping or certain drug offenses. The penalty for a Class 2 felony is a prison sentence of 8 to 24 years.
Class 1 Felonies
The most severe classification. Examples of Class 1 felonies may include certain degrees of murder. The penalty for a Class 1 felony is life imprisonment or the death penalty.
Class 1 Misdemeanor
The most severe misdemeanor classification. Offenses such as some forms of assault or theft. The penalty is a fine of up to $5,000 and/or imprisonment for 6 to 18 months.
Class 2 Misdemeanor
Less severe offenses like reckless driving. The penalty is a fine of up to $1,000 and/or imprisonment for 3 to 12 months.
Class 3 Misdemeanor
Minor offenses, such as criminal mischief. The penalty is a fine of up to $750 and/or imprisonment for up to 6 months.
