What are complex sentences?
Dependent clause + independent clause
OR
Independent clause + dependent clause
What are interrupters?
Extra info set aside by commas
What are compound sentences?
Independent clause + FANBOYS + Independent clause
What are coodinate adjectives?
Use a comma to seperate 2 or more equal adjectives when they come before a noun they are describing
What are commas in a series?
Use commas to seperate items on a list or series
What are direct address?
When you speak directly to someone, seperate their name by a comma
What are interjections?
DON’T TELL EXTRA INFO but instead tells extra words like yeah, no, and yes.
What are clauses?
2 different types of clauses:
Independent clause: a complete sentence
Dependent clause: Has a suject and a predicate BUT has a subordinator
What are contractions?
Make 2 words into one:
could not = couldn’t
What is singular possession?
Use an apostrophe when something singular is possessing something:
Adam’s car
What is plural possession?
Use an apostrophe after the s (usually) to show plural possession:
The teachers’ lounge
What are subordinators?
Words that connect sentences (not always):
Because, although
What are predicates?
They describe the subject
What are subjects?
They are the one being talked about
