13
Q

Describe cavitation

A

As an impellers vanes move through a fluid areas of low pressure are formed, the faster the speed the lower the pressure created. As the fluid reaches vapour pressure it vapourises and forms small bubbles. As these pass from areas of low pressure to high pressure they can implode causing local shock waves which may be audible and even damage the pump.

8m

18
Q

Average pressure from a standard hydrant?

A

3-5 bar

19
Q

Two types of water relay?

7 bar
800
1800
2250

21
Q

Your OIC has requested you give the team 6 bar pressure through delivery 1
How much pressure do you give them initially?

A

3 bar max

22
Q

Duty point of the LPP

A

4.5 bar - 1000 lpm

23
Q

How much fuel does the LPP hold and how long roughly does that give you of pumping time?

A

8.5 litres

90 mins

24
Q

How light you identify a compound gauge

A

It will have a negative AND positive side

25
Q

Which section of suction gets attached to the pump?

A

The clear one

26
Q

What may closing a hydrant too quickly cause?

A

Water hammer

27
Q

If we are not getting enough water from a hydrant what can we do?

A

Ring Severn Trent and ask them to up the pressure

Find an alternative

28
Q

What bar do you set your HRJ at?

A

25 bar on the high pressure gauge

29
Q

Can you run the delivery lines in the high pressure mode?

A

Yes

30
Q

What pressure do we feed the ALP

A

10 bar

31
Q

When using the Porter method what happens if the middle pump suddenly has a pump failure?

A

Nothing, the water will slip straight through - however there may be a slight loss of pressure which the first epump will automatically account for
