Q

Causes of cavitation?

A

Lift too high for volume/pressure being discharged

16
Q

Monitor..

A

Must have two collectors connected
Will over run supply very easily
Should be turned off/on when pump at idle
Pneumatic valves won’t work under pressure

17
Q

What is cavitation?

A

In a vacuum water will boil at a much lower temperature, therefore when the pressure on the suction side of the pump falls below the vapour pressure of water, there will be local boiling and a cloud of vapour bubbles will form. These are carried to the region of the inlet of the pump, where the cavities suddenly collapse causing damage to the impeller

18
Q

Emergency shut down reset:

A

Reset emergency stop button
Return throttle to idle
Select neutral
Disengage both pumps
Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds
Restart engine
Engage pumps
Select D on transmission
Recommence pumping

19
Q

What is the pressure relief valve?

A

The pressure relief valve provides a means of maximum delivery pressure from the main pump.
Has no effect on HP pump/hose
Only used when tank to pump is closed
Delivers 200kpa relief

20
Q

Air in pump?

A

Will not cause cavitation but produce similar signs.
Main difference is crackling a branch
Will cause the pump to run away

21
Q

What type of primer does ACTFR use?

A

Rotary sliding vane

22
Q

Factors effecting lift

A

Creating flow
Change of direction as water enters strainer
Friction in strainer/hose
Restriction in hose
Altitude
Atmospheric pressure
Entry loss(turbulence & change of direction at impeller
Mechanical condition of pump

23
Q

3 types of relay

A

Open circuit relay
Closed circuit relay
Tanker relay

24
Q

What kind of seal does the pump use?

A

Ceramic mechanical seal

25
Q

Pump cooling volumes

A

Varley 60L/min
Series 4 18L/m
