PUMPER OWNER/ MAINTENANCE MANUAL Flashcards
AS THE OPERATOR OF VEHICLE AND PUMP YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR?
MANUAL PG. 9
- Understanding the function of each component of the pumping system.
• Understanding how to adjust each control to obtain the results you want.
• Maintaining control of the pumping system at all times. - Remaining proficient in use,
• Practicing proper manual override and emergency shutdown procedures
HIGH PRESSURE HYDRAULIC FLUID AS LOW AS WHAT PSI CAN PUNCTURE SKIN?
MANUAL PG. 9
High pressure hydraulic fluid at pressure as low as 100 PSI can penetrate skin
- SHOULD USE WOOD OR CARDBOARD TO FIND LEAK
TO KEEP UPTO DATE ON NEW STANDARDS THAT EFFECT ALL FACETS OF FIRE FIGHTING YOU SHOULD CHECK WHAT WEBSITES AND CATALOGS MONTHLY?
- NFPA
- PIERCE MANUFATURING
- IFSTA (INTERNATIONAL FIRE SERVICE TRAINING ASSOCIATION)
WHAT DOES A RELIEF VALVE DO?
MANUAL PG.13
It prevents a pressure spike in intake water from passing to hoses through the discharge side of the pump.
IF INTAKE PRESSURE BECOMES TO HIGH IT EXITS THE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE
WHAT SURFACES ARE NOT DESIGNED TO BE WALKED OR STEPPED ON?
MANUAL PG.15
• Chromed surfaces or objects
• Painted surfaces
• Hose rollers
• Compartment doors or hatches
• Valves
• Controls
• Inlet or Outlet Connections
WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD YOU TAKE WHEN OPERATING A AIRIEL APPARATUS PUMP?
MANUAL PG.16
When operating the pump on an aerial apparatus, always stand with both feet on the operator’s platform and off the ground.
TO ADJUST THE PRESSURE INTAKE RELIEF VALVE WHAT MUST BE DONE?
MANUAL PG.14
the intake pressure to the pump must be higher than the normal static pressure of the municipal water supply.
The best method to adjust the valve is to use another pumper to supply water at the desired pressure.
WHERE ARE HOSES STORED IN ON A APPARATUS?
MANUAL PG.17
• Body Compartments
• Bumper Compartments
• Cross-Lay Trays
• Speed-Lay Trays
• Hose Beds
• Reels
• Hose Chutes
WHAT DOES NFPA STATE WHEN IT COMES TO HOSE STORAGE ON A APPARATUS?
MANUAL PG.17
equipped with a positive means to prevent unintentional deployment of the hose from the top, sides, front, and reaR
WHEN USING AIRIEL APPARATUS HOSE CHUTES HOW FAST SHOULD YOU DEPLOY HOSE?
MANUAL PG.18
At 5 MPH, seven feet of hose is pulled out each second. If you travel more than 5 MPH, you are likely to cause a hose jam in the hose chute
WHEN WRAPPING A HYDRANT WHAT PATTERN SHOULD BE USED TO AVOID INJURY?
MANUAL PG.19
“J PATTERN”
HOW MUCH CLEAN AIR DO DIESEL ENGINES CONSUME EVERY MINUTE?
MANUAL PG.20
Diesel engines consume as much as 1200 cubic feet of clean air every minute
WHAT ARE PIERCE CHASIS EQUIPPED WITH TO PREVENT IGNITION OF AIR CLEANER ELEMENT.
MANUAL PG.20
ember barriers composed of mesh screens or perforated metal, they are not a foolproof guarantee of protection.
ALWAYS PARK UPWIND OF FIRE!
WHEN SHOULD YOU CHOCK WHEELS UP APPARATUS?
MANUAL PG.20
Chock wheels as soon as you exit the cab. BOTH FRONT AND BACK OF WHEEL.
HOW DO YOU ENGAGE THE PUMP?
MANUAL PG.21
- Shift Transmission Into Neutral (N)
- Pull Parking Brake to Apply to prevent vehicle from rolling
*If the parking brake is OFF, safety interlocks prevent hand throttles or pressure governors from operating.
NOTE:
• Manual Override: The pump speed will then be controlled only by the driver’s throttle pedal. 3. Chock the Wheels
Block both front and rear of tire using wheel chocks every time you park the vehicle.
• If the parking brake is applied, but then released during pump operation, the hand throttle or pressure governor will be disconnected, and the engine speed will fall to IDLE. A loss of water pressure will result. - Apply the Service Brake by depressing and holding the Brake Pedal.
- Engage the Pump Shift Control
- Look at Indicator Light
- SHIFT TRANSMISSION TO DRIVE
- LOOK AT SPEEDOMETER 8-12MPH
- LOOK AT INDICATOR LIGHT
