Pulsed Ultrasound Instrumentation Flashcards
What is harmonic imaging?
High and low pressure ultrasound waves, high waves travel faster, creates distortion, generates harmonics within the targeted tissue
What are some benefits of harmonic imaging?
-improve lateral resolution
-improve contrast resolution
-reduce beam width
-reduce sidelobe artifacts
What are some cons of harmonic imaging?
-reduced frame rate
-reduced penetration
What does a wide dynamic range show?
More shades of grey and smoother images
What does a narrow dynamic range show?
Less shades of grey that appear at a higher contrast
What is compound imaging?
Views from different angles of insonation to produce a more comprehensive image (reduces speckle and improves definition
