what is pulse used for?
pulse is used to measure how fast the heart beats
what is pulse measured in?
beats per minute/ BPM
what is a resting pulse rate?
it is measured when a person has been still for five minutes
what is the average RPE for an adult, child and baby?
adults: between 60 and 100 beats per minute
children: between 80 and 120 beats per minute
babies: between 110 and 160 beats per minute
factors that affect RPE
AGE
SIZE (overweight people usually have a higher RPE than lean people)
LEVEL OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY (fitter people often have a lower RPE pulse rate than less active people. for example, an athlete may have an RPE of 40-60bpm)
GENDER (men often have a lower RPE than women)
how to calculate a persons max heart rate when exercising?
220 minus the persons age
