Pulp Tx Primary Teeth Flashcards
When can vital pulp therapy be carried out?
ONLY ON VITAL ASYMPTOMATIC
TEETH
Types vital pulp therapy?
Indirect pulp therapy
Direct pulp cap
Pulpotomy
What is indirect pulp therapy?
Stepwise caries removal
Remove as much caries as possible w/o exposing followed by restoration w/ good seal
What is used for direct pulp cap?
Calcium hydroxide
Tricalcium silicates - MTA/biodentien
When is a direct pulp cap considered?
Small traumatic pulp exposure in asymptomatic teeth
Place calcium hydroxide/ MTA over exposure
Issue direct pulp cap?
Dubious exposure - poor success rate
Lead to internal resoprtion/ necrosis
What materials don’t form good coronal seal?
GIC/amalgam
What is Hall technique?
Provision of PMC w/o need for LA/ tooth prep
How provide PMC?
- Create space w/ ortho seps
- Select correct size PMC
- Cement w/ GIC
Issue of providing pulp therapy?
Knowing if pulp reversible or irreversible inflamed
What is used in pulptomy to stop bleeding?
Can use ferric sulphate - haemostat agent
What shouldn’t be used in combination w/ ferric sulphate?
Zinc oxide eugenol - contribute internal resoprtion
How else can arrest bleed in pulpotomy?
Cotton pledget socket in saline - gentle pressure
Why MTA used?
Biocompatible material and can induce hard tissue formation
How manage a symptomatic non-vital primary tooth?
Pulpectomy
Can be done in one or two stages
