Pulp Lecture Flashcards
Name the four layers from inside to outside
- pulp core 2. Cell dense zone 3. Cell free zone of weil, 4. odontoblast layer
What type of collagen most makes up the pulp ECM?
Collagen III (and some Collagen I)
What are the 5 proteoglycans found in Pulp?
- Chondroitin-6-sulfate
- Chondroitin-4-sulfate
- Heparin sulfate
- Dermatan sulfate
- Keratin sulfate
What is different about the junctional complexes between odontoblasts?
They are adherens but not zonular.
Odontoblasts can form ___ junctions with___
gap, pulpal fibroblasts
What key growth factors are in the dentin matrix?
VEGF, TGFb1, BMP-2
What does an aged odontoblast look like?
Fewer organelles, less secretory activity, nucleus more central
How far does the odontoblast process reach?
Possibly all the way to the DEJ. Maybe only 1/3. Unknown.
What is the difference between reactionary dentin and reparative dentin?
Reactionary: mild stimulus. Reparative: strong stimulus.
Where are the dendritic cells found in the pulp?
In the odontoblast layer
___are closely associated with the neuronal and vascular components of the pulp
Dendritic cells
How many arterioles per root?
4-8.
Where does pulp blood come from?
Externa Carotid artery and superior/inferior alveolar arteries
What layer are the capillaries found in?
during primary dentin formation: odontoblast layer.
Thereafter: cell free zone
What makes up lymphatic vessels?
thinner walls, epithelial lining and smooth muscle layer
