Pulmonary Medicine PwrPnt Flashcards
what type of lung disease is most common? what are some common examples?
obstructive lungs disease - asthma, COPD, bronchitis, and bronchietasis
what is known as the irreversible dilatation of part of the bronchial tree?
bronchiestasis
what is typical cause of bronchiolitis?
RSV (remember the treatment for this is ribavirin)
when a child has RSV and is over 2 y/o what is the disease process now called?
asthma
what is the hallmark restrictive lung disease?
sarcoidosis
what type of lung disease includes ALS (amyotropic lateral sclerosis)?
restrictive
of the lung disorders, which typically goes undetected?
disorders of the pulmonary vasculature (PE)
what is this: lesions seen in the lungs caused by TB that consist of calcified focus of infection and an associated lymph node. it i common in children and can retain bacteria so is often a source of long term re-infection.
Ghon’s complex
what is known as pus in the lungs?
empyema
in which direction is the lung taller?
posteriorly
this straddles a diving blood vessel and is very level. it prevents entry of blood into the lung and will cause anoxia.
saddle or straddle embolism
is also called granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA), often affects your kidneys, lungs and upper respiratory tract. The restricted blood flow to these organs can damage them.
wegener’s granulomatosis (is an uncommon disorder that causes inflammation of your blood vessels. This inflammation restricts blood flow to various organs.)
what is triad for Wegener’s granulomatosis?
small blood vessels, glomerular nephritis and chronic sinusitis
if i say frank hemoptysis with glomerular nephritis, you say what? (keeping in mind we are talking pulmonary disorders)
Good Pasture’s syndrome
is asthma more characteristic of bilateral or unilateral wheezing?
bilateral
