Pulmonary Circulation Flashcards
Factors that keep fluid out of alveoli
Negative pressure in lymphatic vessels
Tight jnxn bet alv epi cells
Surfactant
Net flow of fluid in pulm cap
Out about 30 ml/hr
Fluid goes into interstitial space but nit into alveoli
Chang in pulmonary pressure
Increased pulmonary arterial pressure leads to decreased resistance and increased flow
This is caused by recruitment of collapsed and unperfused capillaries–> opening and perfusion of unused cap
Gravity effect on ventilation
At the base of the lung as aposed to the apex. Pleural pressure is more positive, transpulmonary pres is decreased, alveoli are smaller and more compliant, alveolar ventilation is higher as they receive a higher proportion of the tidal volume.
