biopsy: periodic acid-schiff staining showed pink globules

A

Alpha-1 antitrypsin is made in liver to inhibit NT elastase – which reduce tissue damage caused by inflammation

AAT deficiency = reddish-pink globules on PAS stain.

globules = unsecreted, polymerized AAT in periportal hepatocyte
