Occurs in 15-25% of patients with respiratory diphtheria during 2nd-3rd week of illness
Toxic cardiomyopathy
Occurs 2-3 weeks after onset of diphteria

Treatment of diphteria
Aqueous pen g im or iv, erythro for nasopharyngeal carriage
Stage in pertussis most infectious
Catarrhal stage (pd of communicability 7 days after exposure to 4 weeks after onset of paroxysms)

Until 24h after tx
Diffuse adrenal hemorrhage without vasculitis, dic, coma and death
