A

the constitution outlines the structure and power of the government both federal and provincial, it is supreme law in Canada because it overrides all law
Statute law - laws or acts passed by the government
Ex.criminal code of Canada, the highway traffic act
Common law - relates to decisions made by judges in previous cases

A

area of law that controls the relationship between citizens and governments agencies
Ex.liquor controls boards: manages the sale and consumption of alcohol

A

set of rules and regulations that protect the environment by controlling human activities that may harm nature, such as pollution
Ex. the clean air act, limits air pollution from factories and cars protecting air quality

set of rules and regulations that govern how individuals and businesses pay taxes to the government
Ex. income tax law require people to pay a portions of their earning to the government each year

A

legal rules and rights that recognize and protect indigenous people, their lands, cultures and self governance
Ex. treaty rights allow indigenous groups to hunt and fish on their traditional lands
