Q

What are 7 physical changes that take place during puberty for girls? (7)

A
  1. The ovaries in girls produce sex hormones called oestrogen and progesterone.
  2. Oestrogen causes the breasts to grow and the womb (uterus) and genitals to become larger.
  3. Progesterone builds the lining of the womb to receive a fertilized egg cell.
  4. Girls start to menstruate, which prepares their bodies to have babies.
  5. During the menstrual cycle, an egg is released from one of the ovaries and travels down the Fallopian tube to the uterus. Extra blood and tissue form in the uterus, in case the egg is fertilized by sperm.
  6. This protects and nourishes the growing baby. When the egg is not fertilized, the blood leaves the body through the vagina.
  7. Girls develop breasts, their hips get wider and their bodies get curvier.
