Q

functional foremanship

A

Functional foremanship is a concept introduced by Frederick Winslow Taylor, a pioneer in the field of scientific management. It involves dividing the responsibilities of a traditional foreman among several specialized individuals, each responsible for a specific aspect of the work. This system aims to increase efficiency and productivity by allowing each foreman to focus on their area of expertise.

The eight foremen typically involved in functional foremanship are:

1.	Route Clerk: Plans the sequence of operations and the route through which materials should move.
2.	Instruction Card Clerk: Prepares detailed instructions for workers on how to perform their tasks.
3.	Time and Cost Clerk: Maintains records of time taken and costs incurred for each task.
4.	Shop Disciplinarian: Handles issues related to discipline and worker conduct.
5.	Gang Boss: Assembles the workers and machines for each job.
6.	Speed Boss: Ensures that the workers maintain the desired pace of work.
7.	Repair Boss: Ensures that all machines are maintained and repaired as needed.
8.	Inspector: Checks the quality of the work done.
