Symptoms of PTSD
- Repeatedly experiencing traumatic events
- Persistent avoidance from the situation, thoughts or memories associated with the traumatic events.
- Negative changes in mood and thoughts associated with the event
- Hyper vigilance and chronic arousal
PTSD with prominent dissociative symptoms
- Dissociation- different facets of sense of self and consciousness become disconnected from one another.
- Detachment and numbing
Diagnostic Criteria (DSM-5) of PTSD
- Directly experience or witness a traumatic events
- Learn that the event has happens to someone they are close to
- Experience repeated or extreme exposure to the details of a traumatic events
Adjustment disorder
Maladaptive response to a stressful life events
Symptoms of adjustment disorder
- Symptoms are broad ranging from Low mood, tension, helplessness to defiant and impulsive behaviour
What are diagnosis of Adjustment Disorder
Diagnosed when there are emotional or behavioural responses are out of proportion to what is usually experienced or reported in a light of stressful events
Duration of Adjustment Disorder
Begin within 3 months of the stressful incident and last no longer than 6 months
Acute stress disorder
Occurs in response to a trauma similar to those involved in PTSD
Diagnosis of Acute Stress Disorder
Diagnose when symptoms arises within 3days to 1 month of exposure to stress
Difference between acute stress disorder and PTSD
- Duration
