A
loss of contact with reality
manifests as delusional thinking or hallucinations

positive symptoms
A
delusions, hallucinations, catatonia, agitation

A
flat affect, apathy, social withdrawal, anhedonia, poverty of thought and content of speech

Schizophrenia - Diagnostic criteria
A
- two sx for most of 1 mo: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior, negative sx
- Social or occupational dysfunction
- At least 6 mo of persistent sx (group A sx or negative sx)
- rule out sx of schizoaffective/mood disorder
- Substance abuse/medical conditions ruled out
