Psychosocial, Developmental, Education 2% Flashcards
What is the difference between a 504 plan and an IEP plan?
A 504 plan provides accommodations for physical disabilities that interfere with the ability to learn in a general education classroom.
IEP (Individualized education programs) are for students with disabilities that affect the educational performance and/or ability to learn and benefit from the general education curriculum, leading to the need for specialized education.
Is FMLA time off paid or unpaid?
Unpaid
FMLA can protect the parent from repercussions (such as losing her job) due to covered absences. However, FMLA leave is unpaid, and therefore FMLA application will not provide the needed financial support. (may have to consider Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) if appropriate)
The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) stipulates that employees of covered employers (typically covered employers are those with 50 or more employees) are entitled to up to twelve weeks of unpaid leave for specified family and medical reasons.
For Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), how does the Social Security Administration (SSA) define a qualifying disability?
one which results in “marked and severe functional limitations.” Additionally, the child’s condition must be expected to be disabling (or have been disabling) for at least 12 months
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a federal program that provides monthly monetary benefits to disabled persons. Qualifications for SSDI are based on the income and resources of the disabled child and of other family members living in the household, as well as proof of the child’s having a qualifying disability.
