Positive: added to normal state
- Hallucinations
- Delusions
- Disorganized speech
Negative: withdrawn don’t want to interact socially, depressed
- Anhedonia
- Anergia
- Apathy
- Avolition
Cognitive:
- Cog. Impairment
- Poor memory
- Processing speed
Signs of psychosis include –
- Hallucinations
- Delusions
- Agitations
- Disorganized thought and behavior
SCZ diagnosis
To be diagnosed one must experience at least 2 of the following symptoms for 6 months, including one of the first three –
- Delusions
- Hallucinations
- Disorganized speech
- Catatonic behaviour
- Negative symptoms
Manifestation:
Initial elevated SCZ risk due to elevated genetic susceptibility
Antipsychotic drugs –
Drugs don’t treat negative or cognitive symptoms
Increased weight and self esteem issues,
Effectively reduce positive symptoms experienced in fep/scz
Hallucinations, delusions, anxiety
Operate via dopamine receptor blockade
Adverse effects of antipsychotic drugs such as
- Sedation
- Substantial weight gain
- Cholesterol
- Weight gain
- Glucose intolerance
- Hypertension
- Inflammatory abnormalities
33% scz cohorts don’t respond to antipsychotics
