A
- Typical or first-generation antipsychotics, are
classified according to potency and treat
psychosis by blocking dopamine (D2) receptors.
Atypical or second-generation antipsychotics
block both dopamine (D2) and serotonin (2A)
receptors.

– Commonly causes orthostatic hypotension
– Can cause blue-gray skin discoloration
– Can cause photosensitivity
– Also used to treat nausea and vomiting, as well as
intractable hiccups
